4YFN23 DAY 4: The startup community is hungry for growth

2 March 2023 4YFN

“The 4YFN has become too crowded and will gain more space in the next edition; the startup pavilion is confirmed as one of the most dynamic at Mobile”, writes La Vanguardia. The world’s leading event for startups continues to grow year after year. Tech Barcelona has been part of a frenetic activity: more than 20 sessions and 12 hours of content in the Agora Port de Barcelona, two debates on the CaixaBank DayOne stage, and a successful talk on artificial intelligence in the Agora Stage of 4YFN.

The 16 startups that accompanied us at the Tech Barcelona stand, as well as the more than 50 members of the association present at the event, held meetings and established numerous contacts, representing the local ecosystem and projecting it internationally.

Next year, MORE and BETTER!

Now, we take a look back at the highlights of the last day of 4YFN.

Blue Regentech – where technology meets nature

Seastainable Ventures has presented two projects aimed at restoring the ocean. On the one hand, Ocean Ecostructures uses technology (Life Bio Boosting System) that enables the regeneration of biodiversity in areas such as ports, wind farms or oil platforms. On the other hand, Seabots has autonomous underwater robots capable of monitoring the state of the ocean or identifying and mapping marine environments, among other functionalities.

America’s Cup

It is not only the biggest sailing event in the world. It is also the third most watched sporting event with around 3 million viewers. And Tech Barcelona’s Pier01 will have a privileged location to experience the competition.

4YFN23 DAY 3: Music, pastry, fashion or energy… innovation is everywhere.

1 March 2023 4YFN

The third day of 4YFN 2023 was the busiest of the event so far. Tech Barcelona’s stand was visited by master pastry chef Christian Escribà, Mango start-up accelerator, technology companies such as Holaluz and Oracle Netsuite, and Barcelona Music Tech Hub. After all, innovation is in all sectors and works with a multitude of technologies.

4YFN Awards

Payflow, a startup that offers services for flexibility in the payment of salaries (and member of Tech Barcelona), is the winner of the 4YFN23 Award. Congratulations!

Parity and diversity: challenges and actions in the tech sector

In 2007, McKinsey published a famous study entitled “Woman Matter” in which it already confirmed that companies perform better when they have more women in management positions. Sixteen years later, we are still wondering why we are so far from parity. Mar Galtés, Corporate Development Director at Tech Barcelona, moderated a round table to discuss the issue together with Gemma Beltrán, Director of Technology Companies-Investors at CaixaBank DayOne; Judit Camargo, founder of Roka Furadada; Carolina Pinart, Head of R&D Information Technology at Nestlé; and Guillem Llacuna, co-founder of Talent Match. A link to the session will be available shortly.

Escribà: Tradition, Creativity and Innovation

From five-metre-high cakes to chocolates with QR codes. Escribà, one of Barcelona’s most traditional patisseries, talked about developing creativity and innovation in his business to remain at the cutting edge and disruptive. Experienced master pastry chef Christian Escribà has many stories to tell.

Mango Startup Studio: Success stories

Mango’s startup accelerator has shared the stage with Payflow and Recovo (buys and sells surplus textiles for reuse), two startups participating in the Mango Startup Studio programme.

Digitalisation and growth: challenges and keys to success for scaling up your business

Oracle Netsuite, an American company specialised in cloud solutions, has presented together with Holaluz the case of success in the digitalisation process of the energy company.

Pitch: Creative Solutions to challenges & Ports 4.0. Funds for startups and entrepreneurs

Port of Barcelona has created the necessary structures to support and develop new innovative solutions for the logistics and port sector. From autonomous transport vehicles to IoT applications to track devices in real time. It is also involved in Ports 4.0, the innovation fund for start-ups promoted by Puertos del Estado.

Musictech. New thriving ecosystem

Tech Barcelona is committed, together with Sónar, to the Barcelona Music Tech Hub, a project that seeks to create a suitable environment for the music sector to grow through technology.

Tech Barcelona Pitching Session III

Third and final pitch round. Those Tech Barcelona members who have not been able to present their company to the 4YFN audience will be able to do so at the next Afterwork in March.

4YFN23 DAY 1: We meet again at 4YFN

27 February 2023 4YFN

4 Years From Now (4YFN) – Mobile World Congress (MWC) is back with all the energy and drive of the technological and entrepreneurial world. Gone are the masks and long-distance greetings of previous years; Tech Barcelonas’ stand, in Hall 8.1 of the Fira de Barcelona, where 16 startups are present, has once again become a great meeting place for the Barcelona ecosystem.

Here is a summary of everything that happened on the first day of 4YFN

Artificial Intelligence: between social debate and real impact in today’s society

“The debate organised by Tech Barcelona on the real impact of artificial intelligence in the midst of so much expectation accumulated a queue at the entrance that almost doubled the capacity of the space it hosted”, is how Paula Clemente, journalist at El Periódico, describes what she experienced at the Ágora Stage. We can only thank Carla Zaldúa, CEO and co-founder of AcceXible; Josep M. Ganyet, CEO of Mortensen; Alex Martí, CEO and co-founder of Mitiga Solutions; and Adrià Quintana, CEO and co-founder of Factic, for explaining how they apply AI to positively impact society.

On the occasion of the debate, journalists Samanta Villar and Carlos Santos, from RNE’s ‘A media mañana’ programme, wanted to take the pulse of this edition of the MWC by interviewing Miquel Martí and Josep M. Ganyet on the topic that is on everyone’s lips: AI. We have been seeing its impact for decades, but now it has burst into our daily lives with force. “And like all revolutions, it can generate fear”, explains Miquel Martí. Josep M. Ganyet, for his part, reassures us: “these systems have high capacities, but they are not intelligent. They have no will, no objective or agency, just a syntactic vision of the world”.

From full remote to full flexibility: how tech companies are shaping the future of work

From Tech Barcelona we took the Future of Work Working Group to the DayOne Stage. Moderated by Paula Serra, BI & Project Manager at Tech Barcelona, and with the participation of Selena Sabiote, Senior Manager in Technology at Hays Technology; Guillem Vila, Technology Centres Director at Ocado Technology; Eusebi Llensa, CEO of Outvise; and Diego Calvo, Workplace Experience Lead at Adevinta Spain. We will soon share the conclusions of the working group in the next TB Insights.

Mobile World Congress, molt més que un congrés de telefonia

Mar Galtés, Corporate Development Director of Tech Barcelona, and Albert Cuesta, a journalist specialising in technology, analysed the impact of the MWC on Els Matins de TV3.

Tech Barcelona Pitching Session 1

Time to get to know the 16 projects that accompany us at our stand.

Using Deeptech to create the next wave of disruptive companies
