Tech Spirit Health successfully concluded its third edition. More than 350 healthcare professionals gathered at a packed CosmoCaixa to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the sector. Here’s a summary of what this day brought, within the framework of the Barcelona Innovation Health Week:
- Top Startups in Focus. In 2025, health startups in Catalonia broke their historical funding record, raising €517 million. Among them were DeepUll, with €50M, Qida with €37M, and many other innovative projects like Wivi Vision, working daily to bring innovative solutions to patients. Eva García Ramos (Wivi Vision) presented her tool to assess and train vision; Jordi Carrera (DeepUll) showcased his sepsis diagnostic test; and Oriol Fuertes (Qida) introduced their comprehensive care service for elderly people, which has already served over 8,000 families.
- Transforming Healthcare with AWS Cloud Innovation. The cloud is accelerating healthcare system transformation. Javier Perdices (AWS) demonstrated how these platforms, enabling interoperability and smart data use, are already changing many public models like CatSalut and collaborating with hospitals such as Clínic.
- The Year in Review and the Year Ahead. It has become a tradition. Each year, Jorge Juan Fernández, Innovation Director at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, analyzes the trends that have shaped healthcare and anticipates what’s ahead. He reviewed major moves, pharmaceutical “megadeals,” and the latest in regulation. He also highlighted the unstoppable rise of AI and the challenges it brings. In just one hour, he mapped a clear picture of the global healthcare landscape.
- Strategic Partnerships in a World of Uncertainty. Sergi Trilla, drawing on his experience leading Trifermed and as a driver of Social Impact in Health (SIH), emphasized the power of alliances to advance science even in uncertain times, advocating for purpose-driven innovation.
- Leading lifesciences Investment: Insights from top VC’s of the Ecosystem. In this roundtable moderated by Oriol Sans (ACCIÓ), investors Josep Ll. Sanfeliu (Asabys Partners), Laura Rodríguez (Invivo Partners), and Emma Gasol (AdBio Partners) shared the key factors guiding their investment decisions today. With so many projects on the table, they agreed that differentiation is more crucial than ever. Projects that optimize processes, increase efficiency, and scale attract attention. AI (surprise) is also a decisive factor.
- Accelerating Science: The Combined Power of DeepMind and Google Cloud Across the Healthcare Value Chain. Miguel Ángel Sierra (Google) showcased how combining DeepMind AI, Google Health’s clinical expertise, and the power of Google Cloud is accelerating research and patient care. Digital tools transform complex data into actionable insights, shortening the time from laboratory discovery to real-world patient impact.
- Pharma industry at an inflection point: Regulation, Competition & Innovation. Barcelona is fortunate to host most of the major pharmaceutical companies. Francesco Oggionni (Sanofi), Aurelie Scolan (Almirall), and Marta Herrero (Reig Jofre) discussed, in a roundtable moderated by Montse Daban (Biocat), how the industry faces an inflection point shaped by innovation, regulation, and collaboration.
- ASK ME ANYTHING. Manel del Castillo, CEO of Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, spoke candidly about his experience leading the institution for more than 20 years. In a conversation with Jorge Juan Fernández, he shared the main successes and mistakes of his management. Proudly, he explained how the hospital has embraced the vital traits of giraffes: always steady, upright, and big-hearted.
