Women in the Catalan technology sector are leading the way and calling for more role models
-
From 2 to 25 September, Tech Barcelona and i2CAT’s TechBcn4Women Days highlighted the role of women in Catalonia’s technological and digital ecosystem with a dozen talks, networking events and pitch sessions.
Barcelona, 26 September 2025. – Throughout September, i2CAT and Tech Barcelona held a series of activities under the TechBcn4Women initiative, with the aim of raising the profile of projects led by women in Catalunya. More than 800 participants took advantage of this space to call for a greater female presence in the sector, where women currently represent only 32% of the total number of professionals.
The programme included twelve content sessions that offered a pluralistic view of the current state of the ecosystem from the perspective of the women who lead it, such as Isabel García Frontera (Freenow by Lyft), Marta Tolós (AstraZeneca), Elena Rico (Impact Partners), Susanna Kamph (Xplore Studio), Àngels Chacón (LLYC), Maite Malet (Asabys Partners) and Anna Escoda (BSC), among others.
According to Miguel Vicente, President of Tech Barcelona, ‘the ecosystem needs initiatives that recognise women who, day after day, research, undertake, manage and invest to drive growth in Catalonia. We need a conscious society, a committed public administration and organisations that integrate this vision into their day-to-day activities. Only then can we bridge the gender gap, create new role models and empower female talent.’
The project has been supported by the Government of Catalonia and funded by the Next Generation EU programme. Several organisations, including EAE Business School, Norrsken, Juno House and AFAEMME, among others, have also participated to enhance the initiative’s reach.
