AI Takes the Red Carpet: The AI Awards, Spain’s First Generative AI Audiovisual Festival, Are Born
Por IEBS Business School
The audiovisual industry is at an unprecedented turning point. Artificial Intelligence has evolved from a supporting tool into the driving force behind a new creative era. In this context, IEBS Business School presents the AI Awards, Spain’s first festival dedicated to recognizing audiovisual productions created with generative AI.
The festival was created with the mission of discovering the next generation of talent redefining storytelling, sound, and visual aesthetics through generative models. The competition is open to both emerging creators taking their first steps in the industry and established filmmakers, digital artists, freelancers, and creative professionals with previous work at both national and international levels.
Luis Ángel Mendaña, Director of the AI Awards and an AI filmmaker, reflects on the impact of this technology on cinema:
“In a world saturated with images, storytelling is the only thing that matters. Creating something visually impressive is no longer enough. If there isn’t a human and emotionally compelling story behind it, nobody will care.”
A Creative Challenge with Clear Rules
Participants may submit their work in three categories:
- Micro-Short Film
- Short Film
- Spec Ads (speculative advertising campaigns or commercials)
To ensure the festival’s technical rigor, entrants must demonstrate the use of generative AI in at least two areas of their project (screenwriting, image/video, voice, or soundtrack). Submissions must also include a technical report detailing the tools used throughout the creative process.
Registration Now Open
- Submission deadline: September 25
- Awards Ceremony: November 12 in Barcelona

Hybrid Gala and Expert Jury
The festival jury will be composed of leading figures from the audiovisual, creative, and technology industries. The panel will assess technical quality, originality, and, above all, each project’s ability to connect emotionally with audiences.
Following the deliberation process, the awards gala will take place on November 12 in Barcelona. The event will feature a full-day program including exclusive masterclasses, networking opportunities, and the awards ceremony itself.
The festival will be held in a hybrid format, combining an in-person experience with a free global livestream and participation through the metaverse, enabling broad engagement from the international creative community.
The AI Awards are supported by major organizations such as Movistar and Agencia EFE, reinforcing the festival’s position as a key event for the future of the audiovisual industry.
Additional partners include Magnific (formerly Freepik) and HeyGen. Media partners include Tech Barcelona, La Terminal, Donde Go, Revista Emprendedores, Control Publicidad, Pleiful, and Shaike.
