
Smart Ports: Piers of the Future will be celebrating this year 2020 its second editions as part of the Smart City Expo World Congress Event.
The Smart Ports is an initiative carried by the ports of Antwerp, Barcelona, Busan, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Montreal & Rotterdam which has joined together in order to show to the world their most innovative projects in environmental, social & economic sustainability as well as digitization and mobility.
This year, the Smart Ports: Piers of the Future agenda includes topics such as: Digital Playbook, Innovative Technologies, Cybersecurity, Energy Transition, Smart Piers Cities and Blockchain, among others. In addition, as a partner of Smart City Live 2020, Smart Ports is collaborating on a panel to discuss ‘smart ports’ – ‘smart cities’. Jordi Torrent (Strategy Director of the Port of Barcelona), Jens Meier (CEO of the Port of Hamburg) and Gene Seroka (CEO of the Port of Los Angeles) will take part in this debate.
This event is emerging as the ideal opportunity for the exchange of ideas, projects and initiatives related to the sector, and will act as a global partner of Smart City Expo World Congress. It is an event of global relevance that seeks to give visibility to proposals, business models and innovation, focused on ports and their relationship with the world. This event will serve to show the importance of having a smart and digitalised port, committed to the environment but, above all, connected with the inhabitants of their cities and the planet.
Due to the current global pandemic, this edition will be 100% online with a live streaming format and full access to the content through the platform Smart Ports TV.

The edition of the SmartCatalonia Challenge celebrated with the Catalan Agency of the Water (ACA) poses 4 real challenges detected at the ecosystem of the water management susceptibles of being resolved by means of innovative solutions based on ICT. We encourage companies, startups and entrepreneurs to present innovative and viable proposals adapted to one or several of the challenges suggested.

What do you have to present to participate?
To participate, it is necessary to present a file (ppt or pdf format) (of, approximately, 10 slides) where it’s clearly shown what the proposal consists in (technical aspects, usability, implementation, etc.) and it’s carefully detailed how this proposal solves the chosen challenge.
Optionally, the participants can add other valuable points that consider suitable for a correct valuation of the jury (for example, a connection at a video presentation or a brief digest of the plan of bargain).
It is necessary to recall that the elements that has been more taken into account at this contest are: degree of viability (the proposal should contain elements that show the tangibility of the idea, for example a small pilot), degree of innovation (creativity and originality) and degree of adaptability at the challenge proposed (is indispensable that the document must detail how has addressed the challenge in a personalized way)

– Challenge 1: Water consumption optimization in agriculture (External link)

We recall you that the participation in the multiple challenges is not incompatible. Each participant can present solutions at all the challenges that result interesting to him/her as long as innovative, adapted and suitable solutions at the challenges proposed are offered.

Welcoming the Netherlands as our guest country
The Netherlands, named 4th most competitive nation in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2020, will be this year’s guest country.
With over 2,700 active startups, the Netherlands has become the 3rd European hub in this field.
Connecting virtually from the Netherlands, Marleen Evertsz, CEO of nxchange, will be the 2020 Investment Forum’s keynote speaker. She specializes in developing new decentralized and digitalized financing formulas, particularly for small businesses.
Investors Panel
The Investment Forum 2020 panel will include a total of 9 investors and venture capital firms. The local ones will be Asabys Partners, Caixa Capital Risc, Inveready, Lanai Partners, Swanlaab Venture Factory and BStartup-Banc Sabadell.
Representatives of Dutch venture capital funds BGV, Endeit and ICOS Capital will also be panelists at the Investment Forum.

In this session, you will learn how to interact with international investors, companies and pioneering agents of the sector of the health in the United States and the opportunities of this sector. Plus, you will the opportunity to request an individual mentorship.
For those startups that assist at the session, Barcelona Tech City and ACCIÓ will organize some sessions of mentorship with the speaker, Ana Maiques (meetings one key one), the second week of December, for a maximum of 4 startups. Ana Maiques is the CEO of Neuroelectrics, was nominated by the IESE as one of the entrepreneurs under 40 years old more influential of Spain (2010) and got the award of the EU for Innovative Women of the European Commission CE at 2014 and one of the Europa’s fifty more inspiring women.
Neuroelectrics has the goal of capsizing the way in which we interact with the brain, developing innovative technologies that can be worn to monitor (in a non invasive way (EEG)) and estimulate the brain (tCS-electrical stimulation) in order to help patients that need it. Recently, Neuroelectrics got the award Best Start-up in Health 2015 and was rewarded as one of the Best Business Companies of 2016 in the USA for the magazine Entrepreneur Magazine. Recently, it has been united at the Council Advisor of the European Council of Innovation, the organism pan-European that has as the goal of magnifying the European companies.

She is responsible to create connections with global leaders of thought, disruptive and game changers. At present, Cristina has founded VenturaXVentures company, which wants to create an ecosystem that make impact and generate value for everybody by means of: the connection of the global talent, the catalyzing of the growth and the collaboration among ecosystems, and the creation of value inveting in entrepreneurs of projects of sustainability, social impact, health and wellbeing, education, etc.
