Don’t miss QA&TEST Embedded 2026!

The Ajuntament de Barcelona, through the Directorate of Trade, Food and Catering Services, together with Barcelona Activa and Fundació Barcelona Innova, is launching a new call for grants for urban innovation projects as part of the European Capital of Local Commerce 2026 initiative.

The call seeks innovative solutions that contribute to improving the competitiveness and sustainability of local commerce in Barcelona.

The call has a total budget of €200,000 and will fund up to 4 projects, with a maximum grant of €50,000 per project, equivalent to up to 80% of the total project budget.

Proposals must demonstrate a strong innovative component, tangible impact, potential for replication and scalability, as well as include pilots or tests in real-world environments.

Areas of action:

• Digitalisation, new technologies and the strategic use of data to improve local commerce.
• Adapting and transforming commerce in response to new consumer habits and urban life.
• Urban logistics, mobility and goods and retail distribution networks.

The call is open to startups, companies, cooperatives, universities, research and innovation centres and other organisations, as well as consortia made up of different stakeholders from the innovation ecosystem.

Applications are open from 16 September to 15 October 2026. Following an initial evaluation phase, the 10 highest-scoring applications will be selected to move on to a second phase, after which the projects receiving funding to develop their pilots in the city will be chosen.

The event will bring together students, professionals, and representatives from startups, companies, funds, and social organizations. Its aim is to help people facing a professional decision better understand the different career paths linked to impact. The program, which will be mainly held in English, will include:

• Reverse Pitches, offering a direct insight into how different types of organizations work and what skills they require.
• Career Roundtables, in small groups of up to eight people.
• Career Labs, with practical tools to navigate professional decisions.
• A final space for exchange and networking with professionals and organizations from the ecosystem.

Building a venture can be deeply rewarding, but it also comes with uncertainty, pressure, setbacks, difficult decisions, and emotional demands. Expect research-backed insights, real founder experiences, practical takeaways, and an open conversation with the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

For the fourth edition of Promoting Entrepreneurship: Lessons Learnt from Research, the Esade Entrepreneurship Institute brings research and practice together to explore an increasingly important topic: founders’ wellbeing.

The session will be led by Professor Annelore Huyghe from the Esade Entrepreneurship Institute, who will share research-backed insights into:

• What puts founders’ psychological and emotional wellbeing under pressure.

• How wellbeing affects decision-making, leadership, and venture development.

• How founders navigate setbacks, uncertainty, and persistent adversity.

• What investors, accelerators, and other ecosystem actors can do differently.

• How we can create healthier and more sustainable entrepreneurial journeys.

Following the presentation, Annelore will be joined by Marta Gràcia Vilar, CEO of Cloudworks, and other invited guests for a round-table discussion connecting the research with real experiences from the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The evening will conclude with networking and an opportunity to connect with founders, researchers, investors, and other ecosystem professionals.

The initiative connects university students with sustainability experts and companies that present real-world challenges related to circularity. Throughout the day, students will work in mixed groups and take part in an AI-assisted co-creation methodology.

The programme includes the presentation of business challenges, group work, table rotations, innovation case studies and the evaluation of solutions based on their impact, feasibility and cost.
