4YFN25 DAY 4: Here’s everyone

6 March 2025 4YFN

We’ll hold on to this statement captured by La Vanguardia: “The Mobile is like Disneyland: impressive. But at 4YFN is where we do business […] it’s like the town fair, here’s where everyone is.”

At Tech Barcelona, we’ve supported ten startups at our stand and over 100 partners and collaborators throughout the congress. We’re proud to see how the tech ecosystem keeps growing and how Barcelona is increasingly becoming an international benchmark.

4YFN is the event for doing business, reconnecting with old friends, making new connections, and, above all, learning. We’ve organized a total of 35 sessions with the participation of corporations, entrepreneurs, and institutions, sharing developments that, in just four years, will be part of our everyday lives.

We closed the event with a great debate at the Banco Sabadell Stage, where Aram Sargsyan (FREENOW), Clément Lemardelé (Vaive Logistics), Laura Sanz (i2CAT), Isaac Partal Calvo (SEAT CODE), and Miquel Martí (Tech Barcelona) reflected on the future of mobility, autonomous cars, and the management of interconnected data systems. If we want smarter cities and a real advancement in autonomous mobility, regulation must prioritize innovation.

We also took the opportunity to take a stroll around the MWC, that small ‘side event’ we had next door. This year, artificial intelligence was everywhere: microwaves, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, mobile phones… and countless humanoid robots and holograms to interact with. Curved screens, foldable computers… But, interestingly, the device that caught our attention the most didn’t use artificial intelligence, but real intelligence: the first commercially available biological computer from Cortical Labs, capable of processing information using real neurons grown from human stem cells.

And because of all this, we’re still here. And we’ll keep going.

4YFN25 DAY 3: The ecosystem is in good health

5 March 2025 4YFN

Health and life sciences, Barcelona’s flagship sector, has completely taken over both Halls at 4YFN.

At our stand, we’ve received innovative solutions such as Gate2Brain, X-Trem, and Anicare, presented by i4KIDS and i4KIDS-EUROPE, the pediatric innovation hub coordinated by Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona. We’ve also witnessed notable collaborations, such as the one between InterSystems and the startup Health-Circuit, and had the visit of organizations like the Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedès-Garraf.

Additionally, we’ve met the winner of this edition of the Call For Startups powered by Boehringer Ingelheim in collaboration with Tech Barcelona: Eupnoos. Their innovative software, capable of analyzing a patient’s respiratory sounds for the early detection of diseases, will receive €10,000 and six months of collaboration with the company’s teams to advance the development of their solution focused on diagnosing ILD.

We delved into the relationship between corporations and startups in one of the earliest sessions of the day, with the participation of Jose Maria Blasco, Juan Manuel Baselga, Irene Gómez, Kai Brandt, and Roger Salvat on the CaixaBank DayOne stage. The challenge remains the difference in pace: the agility and speed of startups, along with their vulnerability, need to find a balance with the longer processes of corporations and the integration of innovation into their corporate culture.

A special mention goes to the Tech Barcelona Retail Working Group, made up of Danone, Nestlé, Bacardi, PepsiCo, and Unilever, who took advantage of a highly visible stage to make their own ‘letter to the Three Kings’: “more clean and standardized data, an integrative tool, and an artificial intelligence layer.”

Other highlights of the day include the potential of freelancers with Outvise, the financial support from Qonto for entrepreneurs, the role of MongoDB in developing AI agents, the latest innovations from Artefacto Studio, and Molins’ vision on the future of engineering and construction with AI.

We’re entering the final stretch of 4YFN 2025.

4YFN25 DAY 2: The big celebration of the ecosystem

4 March 2025 4YFN

At 4YFN, smiles and handshakes are constant, along with distant waves when we cross paths in the halls and hugs when we meet. Now more than ever, we’re incredibly fortunate to say that the Tech Barcelona stand has become a meeting point for everyone: from partners, collaborators, and institutions, to any initiative, known or yet to be discovered, with an interest in boosting the tech and digital ecosystem in Barcelona.

At the big startup celebration, more than 20 entrepreneurs, members of the association, took to our stand’s stage to showcase their most disruptive projects. This also included those powered by BlueTechPort, such as AllRead, Envjoy, Metarina, Seabots, and Grasshopper Air Mobility, along with Skilia, Safebox, and Ciberia, the latest creations from Iris Ventures. In this international environment, connections with potential clients, collaborators, and investors are multiplying.

Also, there are plenty of opportunities to go live on a TV program… right, Omnios?

Also, Miquel Sàmper, the Minister of Home Affairs, and Jaume Baró, Secretary of Business and Competitiveness of the Generalitat de Catalunya, have passed by, accompanied by Jordi Aguasca, Director of Innovation and Technological Transformation at ACCIÓ. Also present were Jordi Garcia Brustenga, Director General of Industrial Strategy and SMEs at the Gobiero de España; Lorenzo Di Pietro, Director General of Barcelona Activa; and the delegation led by Josep Sánchez Llibre, President of Foment del Treball, together with Maria Mora, Director of Innovation, who was recently appointed a member of the Tech Barcelona Board of Directors.

Numerous visits from major corporations, association partners, such as Nestlé, Ferrer, Saba, Michael Page… and RCD, who have completely taken over the stand.

Corporations are increasingly approaching startups, and a clear example of this is ERIA InnoHub, Estabanell’s Corporate Venturing vehicle, which has had discussions with Clever Solar Devices. We flew from our stand to Vueling’s to continue exploring this interest, in a roundtable moderated by Mind the Bridge, featuring Mango, HP, Naturgy, and Vueling itself. The key formula for driving innovation: through pilot projects with startups, testing the technology, and verifying its functionality.

We’re talking about Barcelona, but also about Sant Cugat and its innovation alliance ‘BIVA’. This time, on the stage of Mobile World Capital Barcelona.

And we wrap up with the star of the day: The Blue Box, the startup winner of the EmprendeXXI Awards powered by CaixaBank through DayOne. Congratulations Judit Giró & team!!

4YFN25 DAY 1: The year of tech adoption

3 March 2025 4YFN

Once again, Barcelona is the world’s tech capital, and at Tech Barcelona, we wouldn’t miss it for anything. You can find us at Stand B23 in Hall 8.1, joined by these ten startups: Alinia AI, CareerOS, ESTOKO Logistics, Finapp, Foxtery, Kvistly, Meadow AI, Omnios, ProLiveTech, and Workdeck.

The day kicked off with a Code Sherpas session, where Cristina Verdi shared strategies to drive startup growth and make the leap to scaleup.

This year, 4YFN has a different energy. The crowd continues to fill the halls, eyes wide with amazement. But this time, it’s not just about imagining the future—it’s about embracing AI, quantum computing, big data, and robotics NOW.

We’ve witnessed the power of collaboration between major corporations and startups, highlighted by the partnership between GFT’s Digital Innovation Hub and Accexible. The session wrapped up with a demo of Wellbeing Tracking, an AI-powered technology that analyzes vocal biomarkers to assess mental health.

One of the hottest topics has been Artificial Intelligence. Semrush presented an analysis of ChatGPT’s impact on digital strategy, as well as the evolution of the AI market, predicting it will quintuple by 2030, with applications we can’t even imagine today. Meanwhile, G-P introduced GIA, an AI agent designed to optimize global talent management, handling processes like hiring, maternity leave, and contract termination.

The Port of Barcelona’s leadership in the bluetech sector was evident in various talks on carbon footprints, marine biodiversity regeneration, and the Port of Barcelona’s Sandbox initiative.

Take some time to rest—we’ll be back at it tomorrow!

4YFN24 DAY 4: The startup world has grown

29 February 2024 4YFN

Last year La Vanguardia headlined: “The 4YFN is too small and asks to grow; the startup pavilion is confirmed as one of the most dynamic at Mobile”. And indeed, coinciding with its tenth anniversary, the event of choice for startups has grown. A decade ago, only a few people in Barcelona knew what a startup was. However, the success of this year’s 4YFN, with two jam-packed halls, shows that the ecosystem is firmly recognised as a fundamental part of the economic system. Entrepreneurs are still coming, but no longer just to proclaim their ideas for changing the world. They are now presenting tech solutions, and their audiences are large corporations, innovative SMEs and public administrations looking for inspiration and solutions.

For our part, we can only celebrate with pride that we have accompanied 16 startups at our stand (and more than 80 members and partners throughout the MWC), organised more than 25 content sessions (many of them sponsored by important partners such as the Port of Barcelona), received hundreds of visits (from well-known faces and others to meet again) and participated in some of the most powerful panels of the event.

And although, in theory, this fourth day was supposed to be ‘quiet’, it didn’t go off without a bang either, leaving us with some outstanding moments:

Visit of the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities Diana Morant

We welcomed Minister Diana Morant to Tech Barcelona’s stand to present some of the most disruptive projects in Barcelona, when she even joked about her particular resemblance to Aima’s artificial intelligence. Thanks for the visit!

Visit by the Consul General of Portugal in Barcelona, Ana Coelho

We also spoke with Ana Coelho about the potential of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem and the opportunity to create shared spaces for technological collaboration between Catalan and Portuguese companies and organisations.

Hey, we’re on TV!

The cameras of TV3 and the Catalan News Agency (ACN) have got up early in the morning to reflect the success of the 4YFN. And our spokespersons were delighted to participate! The smile on Mar Galtés’ face, director of corporate development at Tech Barcelona, reveals that she still has the journalism bug inside her.

Connecting innovation: Exploring Barcelona’s tech ecosystem

Enisa has been an excellent host in a conversation between Juan Baselga (Tech Barcelona) and the brand new winner of the EmprendeXXI award and CEO of Keybotic Irene Gómez. Together we will always go further.

We sneak off to MWC

Our curious minds couldn’t resist and we took it in turns to see first-hand if what was hiding behind the walls of Hall 8.1 and 8.0 was as impressive as reported in the news. And indeed, the Huawei space continues to impress yet another year; the intelligent humanoid robot Ameca arouses a mixture of awe and fear; the Talent Arena boxing ring is a brilliant idea for future editions; and artificial intelligence and chips continue to compete to become the new gold rush.

Local study, global impact

Call Of Duty has become a legendary videogame saga on a global scale. But did you know that a Barcelona studio is in charge of developing the mobile game for it? Some members of the Tech Barcelona team enjoyed, as fans and casual gamers, the talk by Xavier Carrillo-Costa, CEO and founder of Digital Legends, a company acquired by Activision and a benchmark in the video game sector in Barcelona.

Team lunch
We’re up to our ears in pulpo a feira. Nothing else to say.

On behalf of the entire Tech Barcelona team, thank you for joining us during these four days. Let the rhythm keep going!

4YFN24 DAY 3: Just do it

28 February 2024 4YFN

Stop for a moment and look around you. You will soon notice that 4YFN is something out of the ordinary. You will see brave, non-conformist, dreamy people who disrupt, drive and co-create as if we were already in 2028. Because although this technological look into the future may seem distant, these people know that the time to start acting is now. “Just do it” and, if possible, in good company.

The CEO journey: disruption, skills & scaling

We don’t know to what extent these CEOs have been inspired by the famous swoosh brand, but Carlota Pi (CEO of Holaluz), Aram Sargsyan (COO of FreeNow) and Oriol Hernàndez (CEO of Rever) firmly believe that their slogan – even modus vivendi – also applies to running a company. In a session moderated by Miquel Martí (CEO of Tech Barcelona) at the Banco Sabadell Stage, they pointed out the importance of having vision, building a solid relationship with the founding team, focusing on scaling, also as a person, and being prepared to accept mistakes and make difficult decisions. 30 minutes were not enough time to summarise the odyssey involved in taking on the position of CEO.

Institutional visits

Today we were visited by Albert Castellanos, secretary general of Empresa i Treball, and a delegation led by Josep Sánchez Llibre, president of Foment del Treball Nacional.

BCN-MAD airlift

“The more we are, the more strength we will have to get where we want to go”. Juan Baselga and Sara Pedraz shared the models of Tech Barcelona and Patio Madrid as promoters of the two largest technological ecosystems in the country, showing that we are united by the same purpose and ambition.

TB pitching Session 3 & 4.

More than 20 people, once again, brave, non-conformist, dreamers, who disrupt, drive and co-create, have pitched at our stand today. And, to top it off, they are our members.

Going for a walk

The retail sector is also attending 4YFN in search of technological solutions, and we at Tech Barcelona can guide them. This morning we accompanied the participants of the TB Retail Working Group to show them some of the most outstanding projects at the MWC: from technology already applied by IBM and Vodafone, to developments in progress at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and other research centres.

TB Content session. “Welcome to the future of mobility: from research to reality”

Indeed, we insist once again, bringing the large amount of science we generate in Catalonia to the market would make us take a giant step forward at a global level. It is in this process of making initiatives tangible in order to generate impact on society where actors such as i2Cat, a research centre that on this occasion has presented some of its mobility projects: autonomous vehicles, digital twins, etc., come into play.

Bingo!

At this time last year, Sycai Medical claimed victory in the EmprendeXXI awards. Now, in 2024, it has achieved success once again by winning the Impact Awards from EAE Business School. Congrats!

Full sail astern

If they tell you that sails in offshore sailing are a thing of the past, tell them they couldn’t be more wrong. Eva Pizá (ACE Barcelona) talked about the power of the America’s Cup and Dana Camps (Bound4blue) opened our eyes with great merchant ships powered by the wind.

TB Content session. Talent trends by Michael Page

Did you know that 7 out of 10 people prefer work-life balance over professional success? Joana Barbany (Page Group) presented the results of the latest Michael Page International Talent Report..

And many more TB Content Sessions

Scaling and innovating with Qonto, financing with Capital Cell and tidying up the data of a monster in the gaming sector like Scopely with MongoDB. Here we see them in all colours.

Just do it and come tomorrow too.

4YFN24 DAY 2: Who takes the prize?

27 February 2024 4YFN

The hustle and bustle continues, meetings multiply at stands and in corridors, and technology content fills an unreachable number of stages. As you can’t be at everything, we take a look back at some of the highlights and projects from the second day of the event.

EmprènXXI Awards

And what better way to start than by getting to know the most innovative startup in Catalonia. Keybotic, a member of the association, has won the top prize in the EmprènXXI awards, promoted by CaixaBank through DayOne and with the support of Tech Barcelona, ACCIÓ, Barcelona Activa and Enisa. The startup led by Irene Gómez and Hilario Tomé designs autonomous robot dogs to carry out industrial inspections, a project that has already won awards from the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). You can learn more about Keybotic in this recent TB Members Calling.

Outstanding visits

We received a delegation led by the Honourable Mr. Manel Balcells, Catalan Minister of Health, who showed special interest in some of the startups present at our stand, such as Wivi Vision and Aima. Ángel Rivera, CEO of Santander Spain, and Chema Alonso, Chief Digital Officer of Telefónica, also visited the stand. As we said, it is a meeting point for all those who want to take the pulse of the ecosystem.

Tech Hubs’ Tech Challenges

International technology hubs are also competing for a prize: that of attracting the best technological talent in a market with more demand than supply. Consequently, many of them have joined forces through Tech Barcelona’s Tech Up Nights initiative which, after 10 editions, has managed to bring their most disruptive projects to an audience of developers, programmers, big data analysts, engineers and other IT profiles. Once again at the CaixaBank DayOne stand, Mar Galtés (Tech Barcelona) moderated a round table with Susana Pastor, Xavier Morejón and Guillem Vila, respective directors of the technology hubs of Nestlé, MediaMarkt and Ocado Technology, to highlight the keys to success and the challenges ahead. Stay tuned because we will soon announce the next event.

Changing Health: the AI revolution in healthcare

Full house on the Sky Stage (Hall 8.0) to listen to Peter Ploeger, Country Managing Director of Boehringer Ingelheim, and Juan Fernando Muñoz, Secretary General for Digital Health, Information and Innovation in the National Health System, who kicked off a long conference day organised by the German pharmaceutical company and dedicated exclusively to artificial intelligence in the health sector.

Yes, even more artificial intelligence

No one wants to – or should – be left behind in the field of trendy technology. And Veepee, which operates in the digital environment of ecommerce, has shown its clear commitment to AI as a driver of innovative development. A transformative role that, in a presentation sponsored by the Port of Barcelona, was highlighted once again by Karina Gibert, professor and current director of the Intelligent Data Science and Artificial Intelligence research centre (IDEAI-UPC). Sorry to be so heavy-handed, but the not-so-distant future is largely marked by daily advances in this area.

BlueTechPort Startup Pitch Session

The BlueTechPort, a space designed jointly by Tech Barcelona and the Port of Barcelona at Pier01 to promote the blue economy, hosts many innovative projects: Mireia Coll and Cristina Arenas (BelongtoSea), Francesco Pititto (Envjoy Nature), Sebastian Stockzelius (Janah Cycle), Henry Hooper (Metarina), Tomas Puno (Navozyme) and Pau Guasch (Seabots). We invite you to visit them any day.

TB Content Sessions w/ Aptki y Artefacto y Semrush

Of course, we also focused on business. Aptki taught us how to finance the growth of a startup, Artefacto Studio revealed forward-thinking strategies and Semrush provided insights of interest to marketers.

Face to face between two historic figures in the sector on technocapitalism

Aleix Valls (Liquid Lab) and Ignasi Costas (RCD), each with their own particular vision of how to navigate and succeed in the dynamic digital world.

TB Pitching Session 2

Second round for Tech Barcelona members. More tomorrow.

We’ve sung the line. We’re moving on to bingo.

4YFN24 DAY 1: 4YFN madness is back

26 February 2024 4YFN

The queue of people at the entrance went around the building. And not because of bad organisation – in fact, it was moving very fast – but because 4 Years From Now (4YFN) has unleashed the madness of the tech world: two halls packed to the rafters with attendees interested in the present and future of artificial intelligence, robotics, innovation in health, projects with impact and much, much more. Of course, Tech Barcelona did not miss the event, accompanying 14 startups in Hall 8.1 B23 and more than 80 partners and associates throughout the Congress, and providing a meeting point for the ecosystem. This is just the beginning.

Here is a summary of everything that happened during the first day of 4YFN.

The Power of Inside-Out Innovation – EAE Business School Stand

The essence of 4YFN is summed up in this first talk with Carles Mur (EAE), Jesús Checa (Bacardí) and Juan Baselga (Tech Barcelona): collaboration between talent generators, small and large companies to create innovation. We are in charge of making the connections.

TB Content Session: Mango StartUp Studio’s Success Stories

Pulling on the thread, Mango has opened the Agora Port de Barcelona, in our stand, to share two success stories of open innovation supported by its accelerator: Union Avatars and Ziknes. Thank you, Belén Rallo (Mango Startup Studio), Cai Felip (Union Avatars) and Nacho León (Ziknes) for inspiring us.

Developing Gen AI that cares
As generative artificial intelligence advances, ethical questions arise, not only about its use, but also about the information and code with which it is built. Thanks to LEVEL Airlines, we bring from New York Ariadna Font Llitjós, former director of engineering for Twitter’s Machine Learning platform and current CEO of Alinia, a startup that helps companies implement AI reliably, securely and ethically. “We all need to be transparent in building values into generative AI schemes, companies too,” said Ari.

10 Years of Local Heroes
If the event par excellence is celebrating its tenth anniversary, it is thanks to local heroes who have made the growth of the ecosystem possible. Rubén Bonet (Fractus), María Martín (Tiendeo) and Alejandro Martí (Mitiga Solutions) have recognised the importance of 4YFN as a global showcase to highlight the local sector, an essential resource to break through and gain access to the international market.

TB Content Session: Oracle NetSuite & Nude Project

International and local. Corporation and startup. These binomials, by nature and ambition, once again make an appearance at the hand of the American business management software company and one of the most successful fashion brands. Alberto Lozano (Oracle NetSuite) has repeated for the second consecutive year in our stand, this time, together with Javier Arcones (Nude Project).

Ecology, 5G and IoT at the Port of Barcelona

The Port of Barcelona is a world reference in the bluetech sector, and this was demonstrated throughout the day with presentations by Miquel de la Mano (Fundació BCN Port Innovation), Javier Garrido (Innovation Manager at Port de Barcelona) and Gianlucca Redolfi (Sateliot).

Tech Barcelona Pitching Session 1

Time to get to know the 14 startups that accompany us at our stand. With images as curious as this one.

TB Content Session: Unleashing Potential – Co-innovation at GFT

“Nobody can innovate alone”. The German technology consultancy closed the day at our stand by highlighting the role of its Innovation Lab in the design of new technological solutions applied to sectors such as finance, insurance and the automotive industry.
