Nowadays we are talking about Smart Agriculture or Agriculture 4.0, which will no longer depend on applying water, fertilizers, and pesticides uniformly across entire fields. Instead, farmers will use the minimum quantities required and target very specific areas. It will be possible to grow crops in arid areas, making use of abundant and clean resources such as the sun and seawater. Other innovations – such as 3D printing of foods, cultured meat, genetic modification, and seawater agriculture – are still in the early stages, but could all be game changers in the next decade.
Farms and agricultural operations will have to be run very differently, primarily due to advancements in technology such as sensors, devices, machines, and information technology. Future agriculture will use sophisticated deep technologies such as robots, temperature and moisture sensors, aerial images, and GPS technology.
From secpho, we invite you to join this webinar to get some insights about the latest advances of deep tech for smart agriculture in Spain, as these advanced devices and precision agriculture and robotic systems will allow farms to be more profitable, efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly and to offer better quality.

The combination of the two sectors deep tech and sustainable packaging have a huge potential in the food industry. In fact, packaging has an enabling role in the Circular Economy: by optimising resources, reducing the waste and extending the value of products.
Innovation is crucial in order to generate shared value across the entire ecosystem, especially with consumers, which present increasingly specific and demanding demands. There is a transversed trend to sustainability. The market shows increased consumer interest in sustainable products, especially in the case of millennials. A reduction of the volume of packaging was generated, as well as a re-design of the products and containers of the distribution marks. Packaging companies are setting medium to long term sustainability objectives. A balance between functionality and sustainability is required, for instance when looking at the use of multilayer plastic packaging that increases the shelf life of the products but is difficult to recycle. Moreover, research is done for the development of new materials. However, even though the customer demands more sustainable products, the cost difference is still representing a brake as consumer behaviour studies show.
From secpho we invite you to join this webinar to gain a deeper understanding of the technologies that are emerging as a driver of change in the packaging sector. We will deal with technological advances in the market, such as:
– 3D print to manufacture packaging or parts for machinery via 3D printers
– active and intelligent packaging to increase the shelflife of products, monitor their freshness, show quality information, improve safety and convenience
– edible packaging, to replace single use plastic packaging for food
– self-cooling packaging capable of heating or cooling its contents autonomously
– water soluble packaging for decomposition in the sea
– multisensory packaging that brings new sensations (like aromatic, audible, etc.) to the consumer

Let’s have a closer look at what makes a city actually smart? Smart cities add digital intelligence to the urban world and use it to solve public problems and achieve a higher quality of life.
There are three layers of “smartness”, that will elevate life in cities of the future:
– The tech base includes high-speed communication networks of connected devices and sensors
– Smart applications and data analysis capabilities, translating raw data into alerts, insight, and action
– Adoption and usage, often leading to better decisions and behaviour change
Smart city applications could affect various quality-of-life dimensions: safety, time and convenience, health, environmental quality, social connectedness and civic participation, jobs, and the cost of living.
For example, the city of Barcelona has adopted smart technologies by implementing a network of fiber optics throughout the city, providing free high-speed Wi-Fi that supports the IoT. By integrating smart water, lighting and parking management, Barcelona saved €75 million of city funds and created 47,000 new jobs in the smart technology sector (status 2019).

secpho WEBINAR: First quantum technologies coming to the market
We are currently in the midst of a second quantum revolution with technologies that create, manipulate and measure quantum states of matter, often through quantum effects of overlapping and interlacing.
These quantum technologies represent a new field of engineering with great potential for application in many areas, including computing, telecommunications, satellite navigation, smart phones and medical diagnostics.
It is well known that many of these quantum technologies are still under development and therefore have not yet penetrated the main markets. However, the first products based on quantum principles are now beginning to be found in fields such as communication and sensor technology.
For example, quantum communication can be used to digitally protect shared data, such as financial transactions and medical records, more quickly and securely than is possible with current systems. And quantum sensors provide extremely accurate measurements that improve device performance in industries such as medical diagnostics, high-precision navigation and civil engineering.
That is why at secpho we believe that the time has come for these technologies and that their impact will reach our lives in less than we expect. This webinar wants to serve as a meeting point for the whole community related to quantum technologies, as well as to serve as a dynamic forum to launch new initiatives.

secpho WEBINAR: A new era in food security
The food industry has incorporated photonic technologies as a key part of food safety. The control of light allows us to have access to various physical properties of the materials, in a precise, fast and continuous way, which makes it an ideal instrument to measure the quality and composition of food. Each material has its own spectral footprint, so photonic technologies can distinguish between different foods, know when a product is in bad condition or when it contains traces of harmful elements to health.
The digitization of the food industry involves the incorporation of monitoring elements such as thermal, hyperspectral or spatial sensors, which are often combined with new technologies such as Artificial Vision or Deep Learning to, for example, measure in real time the ripeness of fruit, detect pesticides in food matrices, or control in real time the critical parameters of food quality.
Photonic technologies can exponentially improve processing and food safety, so they are gradually becoming virtually indispensable for food production and improved food safety.
This free webinar is going to be held in English and is addressed to:
Technicians and Innovation Directors from companies in fields such as Telecommunications, Defence and Aerospace, Pharmaceuticals, Agro-alimentary.
